Arrival in Bangkok. It is official, I have travelled around the world. Of course, it took me 4 years to do so, but I have flown from Denver to Bangkok across the Pacific and Atlantic.
I checked into the Amari Hotel and then went out to find an ATM and internet connection. After sending a few emails, I decided it was time for a shower. When I went back to my room, my key card would not work…imagine my shock when a man opened the door! He was a fellow American who had stayed in the room the night before and had been stranded by a plane mechanical problem. I went back to the front desk and they ‘upgraded’ me to a new room…that looked identical to my old room. But at least I could shower and wash my clothes (I don’t know which smelled worse).
After dinner and a quick nap, I went over to the airport (there is a connecting walkway) to welcome E. After waiting for 45 minutes, I went back to the room…which I could not open! Apparently, she had passed through customs very quickly and we missed each other.
It was so good to see her again! The trekking/climbing party was back together. We took a few moments to get caught up before hitting the sack and getting some much needed sleep.
